For the past 15 years, Capital Property Guardians Inc. have assisted in transforming the Rideau Canal into the world’s largest naturally frozen skating rink, Canada’s iconic Rideau Canal Skate way. Through their knowledge and expertise, Capital Property Guardians Inc. have built and maintained the Skate way in excellent condition. Overtime, the National Capital Commission (NCC) has developed a solid working relationship with Robert and his team based on trust, transparency and strong communication. We rely on them to provide high quality service and to bring the NCC’s vision to life.
With a 7.8 kilometres ice surface winding through the heart of the Capital, hundreds of thousands of skaters and outdoor enthusiasts stop by to enjoy the Skate way every year. In June 2007, the Rideau Canal, a historic asset of Parks Canada stretching from Ottawa to Kingston, was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Over the years, Robert and his team have developed an innovative approach to the Skate way based on their expertise, which has allowed the NCC to provide the best possible experience for the public. Furthermore, in order to preserve the site, they have created a technical approach to maintaining the ice by adapting different equipment. They have also developed unique technologies, such as the world’s largest Zamboni (helps reduce Green house gases by 10x) that have helped to transform the Rideau Canal Skate way into a state-of-the-art facility for all to enjoy.
